By the way, Art Thiel's 2003 book, Out of Left Field, presents the 1988 conversation between Lou Piniella and George Steinbrenner over whether to trade Buhner for Phelps. It goes like this:

George: "You need a left-handed hitter, and you need to give up either Kelly or Buhner."
Lou: "George, we don't need Phelps. You're going to cause me problems here. I already have a full-time DH in Jack Clark."
George: "But you need a left-handed hitter."
Lou: "Yeah, but in New York we need one who pulls the ball, not one who hits straightaway or to left like Phelps does."
George: "I'm going to make the trade. Who do you want to give up?"
Lou: "I wouldn't give up either."
George: "I didn't ask you that."
Lou: "Well, Roberto is my everyday center fielder, so that leaves Jay. He's got problems, but he's got power and he's going to be a fine player."

Also, you can read a bit more about the trade <a href="http://miscbaseball.wordpress.com/2009/01/11/the-yankees-trading-jay-buhner-to-the-mariners/" rel="nofollow">here</a>.

I love the idea of a blog paying homage to a glorified era of a team. Even more I love the fact that a Yankee fan can adopt another team. Being an Orioles fan it seems like everybody and their mother in my town and all across the nation is a Yankees fan. At least that's better than a Red Sox fan though.

Anyways, nice blog, well written.
